Dr. Yu completed her Ph.D. in social work at Boston College in June 2014. She is a recipient of the Hartford Pre-Dissertation Award, Institute on Aging Fellowship, Fahs-Beck Fund, and the National Association of Social Work Jane B. Aron Doctoral Award. Her dissertation focused on the caregiving experiences and work patterns of immigrant home health workers and its implications on immigration, elder care, and labor force issues. Concurrently, she is a licensed clinical social worker with advance practice experience in acute and community based settings. Her prior clinical experience informs her research agenda with the immigrant elder care workforce and their multicultural experiences in caregiving. She is particularly interested in how to integrate the immigrant workforce into community based care settings that both creates better patient outcomes and elevates the role of direct care workers. Her other areas of research and teaching include social policies, research methods, long term care, gerontology, caregiving, and immigration issues. Dr. Yu is a member of the Gerontological Society of America and National Association of Social Workers.
