Alison Hernandez is a bi-lingual, bi-cultural Mexican-American registered nurse. She has her PhD in Nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Currently, Alison is a Senior Policy Advisor for American Nurses Association Policy and Government Advocacy team. Previously, Alison was a Policy Advisor for the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging in the Office of the Chair, Senator Bob Casey (D-PA). Her long-term goal is to to help develop and implement culturally-competent policies that align with our increasingly-diverse and aging population. She is committed to helping scientists & clinicians learn how they can communicate and inform policymakers. Alison was a Disability Policy Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Northwestern University’s Center for Education in Health Sciences. She is trained as a bio-behavioral health researcher and has a broad interest in older adult health and longevity as well as science and communication. Her research focused on physical activity promotion for older adults with chronic health conditions.
