
Joan Penrod, PhD, is an Associated Professor at the James J. Peters (Bronx) VA Medical Center. She obtained her PhD in health services research, policy and administration from the Institute for Health Services Research at the University of Minnesota in 1996. As a Health and Aging Policy Fellow, she spent a year with the Quality Measurement and Health Assessment Group in the Center for Clinical Standards and Quality at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Dr. Penrod’s research focuses on the effects of health services, practices and programs on the health and wellbeing of older people and their families. Her current research includes study of the effects of palliative care consultation on outcomes, including costs of hospital care; integration of palliative care into primary care of veterans; improving family satisfaction with palliative care for veterans.
