Dr. Rangarajan is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Geriatrics at the University of Michigan, where she has spent her entire career as an attending physician since completing her medical residency and fellowship in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee in 2017. Dr. Rangarajan has been involved in many facets of care for older adults at UM, including acute hospital care, subacute care, inpatient consults, and post-acute care. She was Medical Director of the Acute Care for Elders unit from July 2018-June 2021 and Medical Director of the Hospital Care at Home (HCAH) program from July 2021-January 2024. She was involved in building this innovative model from its infancy to seeing over 300 patients, both urban and rural, before it was transferred to the Division of Hospital Medicine. Dr. Rangarajan is interested in transitions of care for frail older adults, including long term care and caregiving support, particularly for vulnerable populations like rural, immigrant and LGBTQ+ older adults.
Dr. Rangarajan has also been in several elected leadership positions. She was elected to the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) as a fellow at MCW. At the University of Michigan, she has been involved in the Faculty Senate Medical Affairs Advisory Committee (MAAC) and was elected to the Senate Advisory Committee on University Affairs (SACUA) in May 2024 and as Vice Chair of the 7600+ member UM Faculty Senate from May 2025-April 2026. Along with her clinical interests, Dr. Rangarajan is passionate about advocating for academic medicine and making medical education more accessible and affordable, improving the pipeline for Geriatricians.
Dr. Rangarajan was raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She completed her Bachelor of Science (BS) at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in 2006, then graduated with a Master in Public Policy (MPP) from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in 2008. After a year doing research at the intersection of medicine and social policy, she completed her Doctor of Medicine (MD) Degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Urbana-Champaign and Peoria in 2013.
