
Stella Lartey, PhD, MPH, MA, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences, College of Behavioral Social and Health Sciences, Clemson University. Trained in medical studies with majors in both health economics and epidemiology, she focuses on developing new interventions and introducing methods to enhance and improve efficiency and effectiveness in existing interventions. Her areas of focus are: 1) healthy aging, cognitive health, and chronic diseases (obesity, hypertension) epidemiology, 2) health economics and outcomes research including measuring quality of life, costs, QALYs, productivity, survival, mortality, and life expectancy, conducting cost-effectiveness analysis, and studying social and economic determinants of health, and 3) research aimed at improving healthcare access. She draws on methods and theories from public health, epidemiology, health and development economics. She pulls work from her focus areas to support translating research findings into policy.
Stella was a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Memphis, TN (2023-2024), worked as Lecturer (Academic, Teaching and Research) and Course Director at the Norwich Medical School, University of East Anglia, U.K. (2021-2023), and has more than ten years combined experience working as national coordinator, policy monitoring and evaluation officer and other related roles with the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Services in Ghana. She has served as a volunteer in aged homes and among youth to improve health and educational outcomes in Ghana, Japan, and Australia.
Dr. Lartey completed a B.Ed. in Health Sciences and a Master of Public Health in Ghana; a Master of Arts in International Development at the International University of Japan, Japan; a Master of Arts in Economics at the University of Calgary, Canada; and Ph.D. in Medical Studies and Graduate Certificate in Research from the University of Tasmania, Australia.
