Irene H. Yen, PhD, MPH, is a Professor of Public Health at the University of California, Merced, with an affiliated appointment in the Department of Social & Behavioral Sciences at University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Yen is currently the Chair of the Graduate Studies Program of Public Health and the training core director for the UC Merced Nicotine & Cannabis Policy Center. Dr. Yen is a social epidemiologist with research expertise in survey design and development and qualitative research methods. She is currently leading a study of health and wellness of public housing residents in Fresno County, located in California’s Central Valley. In another project, she is collaborating with a team investigating social networks of patients with multiple morbidities being treated in safety net complex care management programs. Her overall research focuses on the social determinants of health, with emphases on how neighborhood environment influences health behaviors and health status and the intersections of race/ethnicity and social class.
