Jane Buchanan is the Director of Global Impact at HelpAge USA, a non-profit organization advancing the well-being and participation of older people in low- and middle-income countries around the world. Jane leads the organization’s global advocacy and partnerships initiatives, advancing knowledge and programs that lead to systems, policy, and legal changes that help countries respond to and prepare for global population aging.
Her expertise also includes research and advocacy in the US and globally on disability, in particular access to education, independent living, autonomy, and legal capacity. Jane has published widely on topics related to older people, disability, humanitarian crises, and corporate social responsibility.
Previously, Jane worked at Human Rights Watch, directing the organization’s disability portfolio as well as regional Europe and Central Asia teams. Over her career, she has also trained several hundred researchers in human rights research methodology, evidentiary standards, security, and writing. She has an M.A in international affairs and international economics from the Johns Hopkins University School for Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
