Why I Applied to be a Fellow
"After completing my clinical internship at the North Florida South Georgia VA Healthcare System and my postdoc at the Washington D.C. VA Medical Center, I became keenly aware of the systemic issues that plague many long-term care settings, including high turnover, poor quality of care, and challenging behavioral issues. I decided I needed more applied training in public health to figure out how I could address some of the challenges I encountered working in long-term care. This led me to the Health and Aging Policy Fellowship. I was a 2015-2016 HAPF fellow, and I completed my placement in the Office of Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC), which eventually led to a permanent position as a Psychologist Clinician Investigator with the VISN 5 Mental Illness Research, Education, Clinical Center (MIRECC) and the Director of the Care for Patients with Complex Problems (CP)2 Program through the VHA Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention (OMHSP)."
